The scarecrow Kuebiko is a revered deity in Japanese Shintoist mythology. It is said that he is omniscient because he is always outdoors. He represents knowledge, wisdom and agriculture.
Okiagaris symbolize perseverance and resistance in times of adversity.
According to tradition, a doll is given to each person in the family plus one, in the hope that a baby will be born during the year.
