Okiagari Sumo, rolly-polly doll
Okiagari Sumo, rolly-polly doll
Sumo culbuto handmade in japan. Sumo is the national sport of Japan. It retains much of the Shinto tradition and is considered as an art. It was originally practiced by samurais. The rikishi or sumotori (sumo wrestlers) are real celebrities known for their corpulence, but also for their humanity. The bun they wear is inspired by that of the samurais. They wear the mawashi, a 9 m long cloth belt, and the fundoshi, the piece that ties the body to form a kind of panties leaving the buttocks exposed.
Okiagari symbolize perseverance and resistance in times of adversity. "Fall 7 times get up 8 times".
According to the japanese tradition, a doll is given to each person in the family plus one, in the hope that a baby will be born during the year.
